Newroz
Nawroz is one of the holidays Kurdish people
celebrate. Nawroz means "New Day". It marks the first day of spring. It has
been celebrated for a thousand years. On March 21, people get the day off from
works and students don't go school on that day. Everyone gathers together and
leaves their house to go picnicking in the countryside with bonfires that lit
on the peak of mountains and on top of hills. Men, women and children wear
traditional clothes. Kurdish Dance help celebrate the joy of Nawroz. According
to the Article published by the Kurdistan Democratic Party-Iraq KDP said,
"Nawroz each year has been celebrated some times in secret but always in joy
by everyone who consider themselves Kurdish,". Nawroz also stands for peace
and respect for life and nature. It's the beginning of the Kurdish calendar,
So instead of saying " Happy New Year", Kurdish people say, "Happy Nawroz".
